Canada-Based Nepali Poet Arun Budhathoki Returns with Stirring New Collection

After a decade-long hiatus, acclaimed Nepalese poet Arun Budhathoki has made a powerful return to the literary scene with his latest poetry collection, And I Blamed Canadian Winter Again: Poems East & West.

Published by Nirala Publications, the 96-page volume is now available internationally via Amazon and distributed to libraries and bookstores through Itasca Book Distribution in Minneapolis and nationally available in various bookstores in Nepal.

Now based in Canada, Budhathoki’s new work explores the emotional landscapes of migration, identity, and belonging. Through evocative verse, he draws poignant contrasts between the snow-covered terrain of New Brunswick and the towering Himalayas of his native Nepal. The collection captures the quiet resilience of immigrants navigating the complexities of home, memory, and adaptation.

“This book is not just a return to poetry,” Budhathoki said. “It is a testament to the enduring power of words to illuminate, comfort, and transcend borders.”

The collection has already garnered praise from literary luminaries. Himalayan poet Yuyutsu RD Sharma, Budhathoki’s mentor, lauded the book’s portrayal of displacement and belonging. Indian poet Ashwani Kumar called it “a captivating fusion of dialogic revelations,” while American poet Timothy Gager praised its “strong, stringent, and meaningful” brevity.

Budhathoki first gained recognition with his 2014 collection Prisoner of an iPad: New Poems, which established him as a distinctive voice in contemporary poetry. His work has appeared in prestigious outlets including ViceThe GuardianThe Financial Times, and Asia Times. In addition to writing, he has translated significant Nepalese literary works into English and remains active in global literary circles.
